Simon Burstein is a veteran of luxury retail having spent 20 years building the profile of Sonia Rykiel in Paris.
His entire life has been spent in the luxury retail world since joining his family’s business at Browns at the age of 17. For the next ten years, he actively developed the different sectors of the Browns retail empire. More particularly, he created a men’s department and a Browns collection for men.
In 1982, he collaborated in the opening of the Browns men’s shop in Paris. At the same period, he obtained the distribution rights to Filofax in France and opened the first Filofax stand alone boutique on rue Babylone. He later sold the distribution rights to Filofax and changed the shop to Le Jour & L’Heure , now a luxury travel and stationery store , selling brands such as Leathersmith (hand bound diaries ,address and travel books) and Rimova (suitcases) at a new address 3 rue de Tournon 6e.
In the same year, Sonia Rykiel asked him to join the company to build the brand and develop the business internationally. He left Sonia Rykiel in 2008 after reaching the position of Vice President.
Simon Burstein has also been the President of the “Chambre Syndicale de la Mode Masculine”, a position he was appointed to in 2002.
Simon Burstein was appointed CEO of Browns in 2008, taking control of the business from his mother and father to run the company along his sister, Caroline Burstein Creative Director, where he is to this day.
